Lamentations 3 and the Man with the Drill.

Yesterday we had a song writing day at college and it proved to be a really amazing day. We split off into three groups and by the end of the morning each group had written some pretty awesome songs. All the songs were worship songs but each of them differed from group to group. Right from the beginning our group decided that we wanted to write a song of lament. So often the songs we sing in worship focus completely upon happiness and joy and forget that sometimes life is hard and sometimes our faith is questioned. So we set out to write a song doing just that-questioning in our sorrow.

We based the song mainly upon Lamentations 3 but we were also inspired by other factors, other verses and for the starting line the builders who were in the same room as us and making a lot of noise! The different verses could apply to different times of difficulty in someones life and in the second verse particularly it focuses upon how we retain faith even though God is leading us through darkness. Despite all the difficulties life can throw at you however we wait upon the Lord, for he is always there and he remains throughout it all.

In the noises of each day,
where shall I hear the Lord?
In the sorrows and the pain,
where shall I see His face?

But I will wait for Him
For the Lord is my portion
Yes I will wait for him, always.
And I will wait for Him
The Lord of my Salvation
Yes I will wait for him, always.

By the Lord's hand I have felt sorrow,
Through the Lord i'm filled with pain.
Lord, how can I face tomorrow?
I walk in darkness, you have turned away.

But I will wait for Him
For the Lord is my portion
Yes I will wait for him, always.
And I will wait for Him
The Lord of my Salvation
Yes I will wait for him, always.

My skin grows old, my bones are brittle,
He's walled me in, I can't escape.
My soul's downcast, little by little
My hope subsides, filled by disgrace.

But I will wait for Him
For the Lord is my portion
Yes I will wait for him, always.
And I will wait for Him
The Lord of my Salvation
Yes I will wait for him, always.

Because of the Lord's great love, I am not consumed
Because of the Lord's great strength, I forever have hope

But I will wait for Him
For the Lord is my portion
Yes I will wait for him, always.
And I will wait for Him
The Lord of my Salvation
Yes I will wait for him, always.

    1. Waiting is never easy when viewed from our earthly perspective, but with the knowledge that God's timing is perfect I guess that makes things a little more reassuring :) x
