Are you prepared?

The Sunday just gone at my church was the covenant service. This is a service where you remake a covenant with God, offering your life to Him in service and through all circumstances. I am not it would be appropriate to state that I "like" this service but it was only when I was in the service itself that I realised how important it was to me.
It's a time when you can really reflect on God's grace and forgiveness with the opportunity to start again. Although God's grace comes freely through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the covenant made is not a light one.
We offer our lives to God; for Him to do with us exactly what he wants and needs in order to glorify His name. We declare that we are prepared to be exalted or brought low for Him. To be respected or ridiculed. To be in health or to be in suffering.
They are all pretty extreme and make you question whether you really mean what you are declaring. Are you prepared to be brought low for the God you serve? Are you prepared to suffer for the glory of the Lord? Are you prepared to lose everything to give your whole self to the Lord?
It makes you think...are you prepared?
Christianity is not a nice happy journey of floating on a cloud in perfect harmony. Sometimes we are called to suffer...to act against our natural inclinations and needs. This is the harsh reality of living in an imperfect world that is set against anything moral or good. It's shining your light in the oppressive darkness even if it means everyone is against you- even sometimes your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Be aware of what you are declaring before you make a covenant with God...because one day you may be called to lose everything. Are you prepared?x
