Weekend away

So this weekend me and mum went on a weekend away to the Lake District. Mum had a day off work so we made a long weekend of it.

Although some people go to the Lake District to walk-namely most of my family- we decided to do the tourist side of things, so off we went to visit all the places we had often seen but never visited.

Our first day we spent in Grasmere and visited the grave of the poet William Wordsworth and also his house, Dove Cottage. We also went to the famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop! Yum yum yum!

The second day we went round Sizergh Castle which was fascinating. I love going round old manor houses and castles. I guess part of me likes to day dream about what it must have been like living among such grandeur yet also having all the responsibilities that came with it! In the afternoon we decided to drive near Windermere and Ambleside for a bit to see if there was anything to do. We went round a garden centre, then went on a bit of an adventure to find a Roman Fort which was labelled on our map. When we got there all that was left was a few stone foundations surrounded by protective fencing in a cow field...exciting all the same!

Our final day, and the day we came home, was yesterday. We decided that we would stay for a few hours more and go round another house and gardens. The name of this one escapes me at the moment but it was a fine house retained in an Elizabethan style. Beautiful. Then a quick lunch in the café and home :)

Both very tired but had a lovely weekend away. Also part of me now wants to own a B&B! x
