Our Honeymoon

Well it's been a little over a year since I last posted on this blog due to a mix of wedding preparations, little inspiration and general forgetfulness. But here I am and I thought, considering I have no been married for just under 4 months I would do a little post about our adventures around the Cotswolds in our first week as Mr and Mrs.

Our week at Rose Cottage in a little village called Ebrington was a mix of travelling and some long needed relaxing. We were welcomed in to this quaint little thatched cottage with a wonderful welcome hamper filled with local produce and quite quickly got settled in to our first holiday cottage together.

We started our first full day in the Cotswolds waking up unnaturally early at 4.30am. So after waiting until a slightly more acceptable time to get up we decided to make the most of a long day and have a day trip out in Bath. Our early morning journey was certainly worth it as we saw the beauty of the Cotswolds in Autumn that so many people had told us of prior to our stay. The early morning mist across the rolling hills and copper trees was a beauty that evaded being captured on film.

Once we hit Bath mid morning the mist had lifted and beautiful autumnal sun poured over the city. This day was filled with so many special moments and memories, starting with morning tea and crumpets in the Roman Baths tea parlour listening to live classical piano music

We then had fun pretending to be Romans exploring the Roman Baths. Something we would definitely recommend to give the baths a visit if you are interested in history.
The light and the colours of this city were so beautiful and we quickly fell in love with this little pocket of the world.

After a late lunch and a stroll around the town we made our way up to the famous circus where we naturally pretended to be Jane Austen Characters parading along the well trodden paths, soaking in the beauty of the architecture on our right and the countryside on our left.

Tuesday was the laziest of days, having a slow start and a nice walk to the neighbouring village ready for lunch. Naturally upon seeing this sign called the eight bells we could eat at no other venue. Delicious food and highly recommended.

The village of Chipping Campden was the most picturesque Cotswold village filled with charm and history. Sadly the weather on this day was a little drizzly and cold so we soon headed back home to warm up by our cosy fireside.

After many full days we often spent our evenings keeping warm by the real fire, drinking hot chocolate, playing games and watching films. Pure bliss.

Wednesday saw us travelling to the land of Shakespere, Stratford-upon-avon. Thankful for another beautiful day to explore this town we were both fascinated and a little bit freaked out by the butterfly farm. We never knew moths could grow to be so big!

Thursday took us to the famous town of Bourton-on-the-Water.
We had fun pretending to be giants in the model village and this little town was filled with so many quirky shops....we may have gotten a little over excited on numerous occasions.

Our final day, Friday sadly saw no photos being taken but that was because we were far too busy exploring the sites of Oxford. We were blown away by the history and beauty of Christ Church Cathedral and dined in the same pub as CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein. The hussle and bussle of Oxford city life was far different from what I had imagined but it added a new sense of variety to our week.

It is so nice to look back on that week and remember all the different adventures we had. It's very odd putting in to words what our honeymoon was like as it came with the added adventure of learning to live with each other for the very first time but four months on we can definitely say it's one of the greatest adventures of the lot! x
